LA Center is a Top Breast Augmentation Surgeon in Los Angeles.

Breast augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty or Breast Enhancement is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman’s breast for a number of reasons: To enhance the body contour of a woman who, for personal reasons, feels her breast size is too small. To correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy or to balance a difference in breast size. Or as a reconstructive technique following breast surgery. Breast augmentation helps balance a women’s figure, improve symmetry and enhance a women’s self-confidence and self-image. By inserting an implant behind each breast, surgeons are able to increase a woman’s bust line by one or more bra cup sizes.

Breast Augmentation is a very widely accepted procedure and a great way to make you feel better about yourself. Breast implants as with any other surgical procedure requires that you be in good health. During your initial consultation the surgeon will ask you questions to determine if you’re a good candidate to receive breast implants. Questions such as your current health status, previous medical problems, your use of medications and herbal supplements and other important factors that will affect the outcome of the surgery.

A common dilemma for women is to decide what breast size they want prior to the procedure, of course the surgeon will help you evaluate your body shape and proportion determined the best size and shape of implants. You will be given a choice of two different types of breast implants. Silicone Implants and Saline Breast Implants. The silicone breast implants acts more like a solid, it’s it is jellylike and holds together in a uniform fashion. It actually feels like natural rest tissue. In addition to these two types of implants you also have to determine the shape or contour of the implant. And that is something that the plastic surgeon will be determine which type that is best suited for your body.Another important factor when deciding to get Breast Implants is Breast Augmentation Costs and prices associated with this type of surgery.

The breast implant procedure is usually done at our in house at the surgeon’s office in Los Angeles also serving Beverly Hills. There you will be administered oral medications and or possibly anesthesia. The surgery itself takes about 2 to 4 hours in the recovery takes at least a couple days with soreness and swelling lasting 2 to 3 weeks. You’ll need to consult your cosmetic surgeon about when you can get it to a regular exercise routine. This will be determined by a follow-up visit. The results of the surgery will definitely be long-lasting. However with aging of the body and the implants they will need to be replaced sometime during your lifetime. If they do have to be changed until it can elect to have a breast implants exchange to restore the arrests to a more youthful shape. The best candidates for a Breast Augmentation

The best candidates for breast enhancement are women who are looking for improvement, not perfection, in the way they look. If you’re physically healthy and realistic in your expectations, you may be a good candidate.

During your consultation, our doctors serving Los Angeles and Beverly Hills patients, will discuss the various breast implants available including size, shape and type of implant either saline implants or silicone implants. Be sure to tell your surgeon if you smoke, and if you’re taking any medications, herbs, or other drugs. The surgeon will then explain which surgical technique and type of implant that is most suitable for you. If your breasts are sagging, your doctor may also recommend a breast lift. You and your surgeon will determine what size implant is best for you. Be aware that the larger the implant, the more unnatural it will look. The breast implant can be placed using a number of different small incisions. You and your surgeon will choose the incision location that will give you the best result and also meet your expectations. Incisions are made to keep scars as inconspicuous as possible, in the breast crease, around the nipple, in the armpit or at the belly button.

Preparing for surgery

You will be told which medications to stop and which to take before surgery. Medications such as aspirin, ibuprofen must be stopped for 7 days before surgery. If you smoke, you must quit smoking entirely for 6 weeks before and 6 weeks after surgery. If you get sick or have any health issues in the days before surgery, please notify our staff at once in case we have to postpone your operation.

The surgery usually takes 1-2 hours to complete. The method of inserting and positioning your implant will depend on your desires, your anatomy and the implant you and your surgeon have chosen. For gel implants, the incision required is almost an inch longer than the incision used for saline implants since the gel implants come pre-filled and require more room to insert. Every effort will be made to ensure that the resulting scars will be as inconspicuous as possible.

The breast implant is placed either directly behind the breast tissue or underneath your chest wall muscle. Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages, and your surgeon will explain them to you before surgery.

The anesthesia

Breast augmentation is usually performed under “twilight” anesthesia or general anesthesia. Twilight anesthesia consists of intravenous sedation and pain medication that keeps you relaxed and sleepy during the surgery. A local anesthesia to numb the abdomen may also be used. General anesthesia involves going completely to sleep with a breathing tube in your throat. There is a slightly higher risk of nausea and vomiting after general anesthesia, however both techniques are extremely safe. Your surgeon will discuss the anesthetic options with you before surgery.

After The Surgery

Gauze dressings can be removed the day after surgery. Tape or adhesive strips directly on your incision should not be removed. If they fall off in the shower there is no need for concern. Most women feel more comfortable wearing a sports bra for the first few weeks after surgery.

Breast augmentation alone usually does not require the use of drains. If a combined breast lift-augmentation is performed, one drain in each breast may be required. These drains help drain the fluid that is produced under your skin as part of the healing process. The drains are easy to take care of and do not hurt when taken out.

Since Breast augmentation can be done safely as an outpatient procedure most patients will be able to go home the same day.

What about swelling and bruising?

Patients will notice pain and swelling for at least the first few days. Pain is normal, but determining how much pain is unpredictable. If you have done well with surgeries in the past then you should be fine. The doctor will prescribe pain medication.

Swelling and bruising are also normal signs of the healing process. Swelling will be prominent for the first 3 days and then gradually disappear. By the end of the first few weeks, half of the swelling is gone. During this early period, your breasts will appear larger than their final size due to the swelling. By the sixth or eighth week, a large part of the swelling has disappeared. And 6 months out almost all the swelling is gone.

After the surgery

Its better not to use a hot-tub, or go swimming for at least a week. The first two days after surgery are usually spent doing minimal activity. Most patients then begin to get back to their regular routine. Within 3-5 days, you will probably be ready to leave the house for short trips and light walks. More strenuous walking and mild stretching exercises can be resumed about a week after surgery. Jogging, aerobics, weight-training, should not be done until 3-4 weeks after surgery.

When can I travel?

You should wait at least 2 weeks before traveling after surgery. A good rule of thumb is when you are off the stronger pain medication and can get up without assistance you are ready to go for a short drive.

When can I go back to work?

Most people go back to work after one or two weeks. Jobs such as computer work or talking on the phone can begin even sooner, if you have strenuous job that involves a lot of lifting or physical activity, you may have to wait 5-6 weeks until you are ready for work.

What kind of scars can I expect?

Scarring is an unpredictable part of any surgery, and to a large extent, scarring is determined by your genetics. If you are prone to hypertrophic (wide, raised) scars or keloids, make sure to inform your surgeon ahead of time. Our surgeons will use all the available techniques to minimize your scars. Notice that after several months, your scars will begin to fade, although they will never disappear completely. It takes a few years for a scar to completely heal.

Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon.
